Mountain View Seeds (MVS) is a major breeder in the cool season turf industry and has recently transitioned into the vegetive warm season turfgrass sector, starting strong with the introduction of IronCutter™ Elite Hybrid Bermudagrass.

Based in Oregon in the United States (US), MVS’ history dates back to 1946 when local farmers founded a Co-Op to produce premium Willamette Valley grass seed. The Company, MVS was then created in 1998 to manage mounting demand for the Co-Ops premium seeded varieties.

Today MVS produces more than 80 varieties of cool-season grasses such as transitional Ryegrass, Fine Fescue, Tall Fescue, Creeping Bentgrass and Rough Bluegrass servicing customers globally, and MVS’ commitment to research produces proprietary turf that is respected world-wide.

In 2008, MVS invested and partnered with their affiliate, Peak Plant Genetics (PPG) where emerging industry demands are identified and met through breeding programs and product development. .

Being independent is of utmost important for PPG Research Station, with stringent third-party testing of all varieties. The US’ National Turfgrass Evaluation Program and independent quality testing are all part of the necessary screening to produce persistent, quality grass.

MVS also works closely with research programs at Rutgers, Oregon State Universities, and other public and private breeding institutions in the US.

Each year, thousands of plants are screened in greenhouse, field, and demonstration trials. Of these, only a handful are selected for a five-to-10-year development program.

This approach has been highly successful in product breakthroughs like LateralSpread, Bluemuda 365ss, TetraMag, and now MVS’ first vegetative Elite Hybrid Bermudagrass – IronCutter™.
