Our team is a dedicated mix of agronomists, agricultural scientists and financiers, all with years of experience in helping Australian agricultural businesses grow. We are here to give our growers, retailers and consumers total satisfaction through excellence in breeding, supply and support. We aim to develop ongoing relationships with our whole supply chain through regular in-person conversations because we are all working together for a common goal – delivering outstanding turf to end users.
Steve Burt is co-founder and Managing Director of TurfBreed and has more than 30 years’ experience in agribusiness, including roles at both a board and senior management level. Steve’s previous track record sees him having successfully managed, business organisation start-ups, mergers and acquisitions, capital raisings, commercial operation, risk and oversight of businesses with multi-billion-dollar turnovers. From this cross section of experience, Steve maintains an extensive network across the Australian and Global Agribusiness sector where he has been integral in developing businesses and finding solutions for numerous agricultural and business ventures. Steve’s vision for TurfBreed is to be the turf industry genetics manager of choice through partnering with turf growers to grow their business safely, sustainably and profitability through leading edge genetics, innovative marketing and business support.

Ann has extensive experience in retail horticulture and business management with 30 years in the business of growing businesses and people. With experience in business acquisition, startup and consolidation along with corporate negotiation, relationship building, international trade and people mentoring, Ann will bring to TurfBreed an egalitarian approach and a quintessential interest in you.

Business Development Manager QLD
Daniel has extensive experience in marketing, business management and logistics for the past 30 years across a variety of industries. Daniel comes from a country background and has a solid understanding of sales and dealing with the commercial sector. Much of Daniel’s career has been built on forming good relationships to build good business “…I believe I have something to offer all our growers”. Daniel aims to dedicate his time identifying the needs of the QLD turf growers, answer the questions that haven’t been asked and to keep it ‘real’. His personality has broad commercial expertise and networking in international business which will make him successful at TurfBreed.

Administration manager, IT Projects
Katrina Taylor is one of the key members of the TurfBreed team who is the first port-of-call for many growers with day-to-day queries. One of Katrina’s major projects has been creating the Grower Portal which she manages on a daily basis. Katrina’s interest in agriculture led her to the University of Melbourne where she completed a Bachelor of Agricultural Science.
Since then she has been fortunate enough to work in the agricultural industry – focussing on the grain sector. She has worked for many of the major players in grain and has been lucky enough to learn the end-to-end process of business. Work experience areas include trading, quality, export, and, more recently, IT to support these functions. Katrina’s interest in systems and processes has led her to creating and managing systems and helping TurfBreed’s business improve in many areas.

Communications Manager & Managing Editor
Katie Fisher has extensive communications, editorial, technical and advertising experience across the agriculture and horticulture sectors. Underwritten by a Bachelor of Agricultural Science (Hons), Katie’s experience includes public relations, publishing, copywriting and social media services for a range of clients from livestock to horticultural and now turf. Her approach is based on building strong relationship networks with stakeholders, growers, industry and government bodies, and a commitment and passion for making a positive contribution to those industries.

dr ANDREW FLETCHER
SENIOR RESEARCH SCIENTIST
adjunct fellow, university of queensland
Andrew has a strong background in scientific research and brings his practical and academic expertise to the TurfBreed team. Having completed an undergraduate Bachelor of Agricultural Science and a PhD with the University of Queensland in the fields of plant physiology and genetics, where he also holds a position as an adjunct research fellow. Andrew is well-equipped to take on the challenges of turf research and has the skills needed to deliver meaningful results to our growers and consumers. He has extensive experience as a scientific communicator and is passionate not only about conducting scientific studies on agricultural crops, but equally about communicating the outcomes and implications of that research to a wider audience and is keen to make a lasting impact in the turf industry.

Nathan Tovey is a qualified Turf Manager with more than 25 years’ in the Australian Turf Industry. His experience ranges from starting as an apprentice on Golf Courses, managing some of Melbourne’s elite private school grounds through to project managing large scale turf installations across Victoria.
Nathan’s vast work experience has seen him gain a wide-ranging knowledge when it comes to turf. Nathan looks forward to working with all of TurfBreed’s stakeholders across the country and has a strong appetite to continually learn from all those in the Industry he will be alongside.
